Introducing Maryam

Who are you?

I’m Maryam, 29 years old and born in Tehran, Iran. Recently I relocated to the Netherlands and currently I'm living in The Hague.

What would you like people to know about you?

If there is one thing that people should know about me is that I am a person who likes to keep herself very very busy. I really enjoy learning new things and I am constantly seeking out new learning opportunities. When it comes to technology, I feel like the technology is constantly changing. And innovations are being put into place to improve efficiency and security. I’m excited about taking on changes and challenges because I genuinely find them fun.

Do you have a life motto? what is it?

I’m go-getter, I’m not waiting for things to come to me.

How are you surviving in this corona- time?

When COVID-19 upended our lives, it separated us, almost completely, from the routine and events that usually root our lives in time; work, school, dates, social outings, sports events, ceremonies, travel, the things we plan and look forward to. Life tends to be a blur without those anchors. I took this opportunity to learn more and more and improved my technical skills for my career perspective. Finally I accepted in Techspire interview, during my recovery from covid-19.

Do you have interesting hobbies?

A lot of hobbies. I play piano and guitar and I like painting and playing Tennis. I also love playing puzzles, I enjoy solving it little by little.

Any bloopers in the past you would like to share?

Yes, the recent one! I just arrived here in the Netherlands and it was a cloudy morning as always and I was with Freek, my CTO, in a car. Then I saw something white and round in the sky and I immediately said “WOW! The moon is so beautiful today!”. Freek looked at me full of surprise and said “that’s not the moon Maryam that’s the Sun, we don’t see the moon in mornings!!” From that moment whenever Freek sees me, he reminds me of that!

With what it problem should the person who read this, contact you immediately, as you cannot wait to solve it?

Hunting down bugs and fixing them is like getting paid to solve puzzles. There's definitely a thrill to it. And every time you fix a bug, you just made someone's day on the customer support team. It's nice to feel like a hero sometimes.

Tell us any (weird) fun fact about you?

I bite my nails a lot. It was a really bad habit that I hated. I got my nails done to stop it.

Why do you (want to) work for Techspire?

Actually I’m totally new to everything. The country, the company, the way of life. But at the moment I came to office it just felt like I’ve already worked with them. The atmosphere is so friendly and welcoming and the one thing that I have always been looking for is the road map for learning, they push you through the things that you’ve always wanted to learn.
