“Giants only work with Giants” is a well-known saying and often true. Nevertheless, it also happens that a large and a small company are very good partners for each other. Techspire has recently been welcomed as a member of the Oracle Partner Network. But what makes these companies go into business together? And how do they complement each other?
First impression…
When Techspire was invited by Oracle for an introduction and presentation about the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), the Oracle guy asked the attendees of Techspire if they were familiar with Oracle Cloud. Techspire’s CTO- Freek van Gool – replied: “Yes, I know Oracle Cloud, it is the cloud solution that’s always offline between 4 and 6 every Friday afternoon.” This clearly turned out to be a misperception based on an old image of this cloud solution. Benefit of starting later…
It must be said that the first version of Oracle Cloud was not the best; initially this did not have the attention within the company that it should have received with regard to the great importance of cloud technology. When the importance of cloud and the imperfections of the 1st version of Oracle Cloud became clearer, the company took an important decision to build a completely new solution from scratch: Oracle’s 2nd generation cloud. To achieve this, the company opened a “stealth mode” office in Seattle, the same city where major offices of the largest and more established cloud vendors Amazon, Microsoft and Google were located. The best people of the competition were hired – initially very discreetly – and they were asked what they would do differently if they were to rebuild their cloud completely. This resulted in a long list of imperfections of “traditional” clouds. Oracle decided to solve all these problems and invest massively to build its 2nd generation cloud; Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Benefits of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure…
Without going too much into technical details, a number of things are enormously distinctive, to make the Oracle Cloud very competitive:
- To begin with, the architecture of the Oracle Cloud is completely different. Unlike other vendors, it is possible to use a totally isolated environment without being bothered by “noisy neighbours”. This also has enormous advantages in terms of security. The Oracle Cloud is considerably safer than the competition because of this architecture.
- By using the most modern hardware built by Oracle itself, the performance of Oracle Cloud is considerably better; various studies (1) by independent parties have shown this;
- The costs of Oracle Cloud are considerably lower than those of the competition; on the basis of “Bring your own license” but if Oracle SaaS software on Oracle Cloud is used; then it becomes even more competitive.
- Collaborations with third parties; Oracle has meanwhile established far-reaching partnerships such as Microsoft and VMware. This makes it increasingly easier to work from these platforms and with these technologies, which also brings benefits when implementing a multi-cloud strategy.
Current developments Oracle Cloud…
In summary, Oracle has taken the advantage of “starting too late”. By being willing to invest enormously at a later stage, they have been able to introduce the first 2nd generation Cloud that is considerably better, faster and cheaper than more well-known but older alternatives. Various clusters of Oracle Cloud Data Centres are currently being opened at a rapid pace worldwide.

Oracle prefers to develop partnerships with parties that can give an objective assessment of the possibilities of Oracle Cloud based on a great deal of technical knowledge and experience. At the same time, Techspire does not limit itself exclusively to Oracle Cloud. This is important because in a modern IT organization a multi-cloud policy, to prevent a vendor lock, is often important. Techspire also has expertise about other cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure, Amazon and Google.

Oracle has many customers who work with valuable mission-critical software that often uses older techniques and is therefore not easy to modernize and migrate to a cloud solution.
